‘SOWF Schools Summit 2008’ – Towards a Collaborative Curriculum

2-4.30pm Monday 8th December, Unicorn Theatre

The ‘SOWF Schools Summit 2008’ will bring together head teachers, teachers, students, local authorities, arts organisations and policy makers from Lambeth and Southwark to debate how arts organisations and schools can work towards a collaborative curriculum and agree joint operating principles to providing access and entitlement to arts and culture for all.

The summit will look at how arts organisations and different art forms (performing arts, dance, music, film and visual arts) can support the curriculum from Early Years, to Key Stages 1 – 4, including the 14 – 19 curriculum in Southwark and Lambeth.

This is a free event and places are restricted to one teacher from each school. Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis.

The afternoon will be followed by festive refreshments.

20th October 2008, Tate Modern – Creative Teachers INSET SEMINAR

9.30am - 4pm, Monday 20th October 2008, Tate Modern

Following on from the success of SOWF’s Head Teacher’s and Arts Director’s Reception we are delighted to announce details of the Creative Teacher’s INSET Seminar that will take place on Monday 20 October at Tate Modern. The event will be a FREE, fun and informative seminar for creative teachers and Cultural Quarter partners designed to continue the dialogue between schools and arts organizations in order to bring about more creative opportunities for young people in Southwark and Lambeth.

We would like to invite two teachers from each school to join education teams from across the Cultural Quarter to experience a taste of what some of these organisations can offer schools. Each session will be based around a creative theme which we hope will encourage collaborative dialogue between schools and arts professionals.

You can choose to attend for a half or full day as the taster sessions will be repeated in the afternoon.

29th April 2008 – HEAD TEACHERS AND ARTS DIRECTORS RECEPTION

This event is the beginning of a journey between schools and the Cultural Quarter towards a greater creative dialogue. The event was a great success with over 200 guests attending, representing 80 schools from Lambeth and Southwark and 22 Cultural Quarter organisations.

What did the teacher’s say??

Stella Jennings – Head of Art and Design, Charles Edward Brooke, Lambeth
“SOWF event was very enjoyable, excellent catering and views too!  I met a couple of interesting people, one lady from the Tate Modern who I have not had a chance to chase up and make contact with but it's GCSE Art time now…and a Head Teacher of primary school near us so that was useful”

Jane Giles – Head Teacher, Bessemer Grange, Southwark
“Just to say thank you very much for yesterday. Not only was the event informative and great for networking but we also really enjoyed the Royal Philharmonic concert.

Irene Bishop – Head Teacher, St Saviour’s and St Olave’s, Southwark
“This is great - thank you so much for the organisation.  I know that many heads were very appreciative of the event.  Others have contacted me to ask how they get involved because they missed it.”
