Creative Schools Projects
Throughout 2008 SOWF will support four pilot projects as part of the Schools strand. The projects aim to develop new models for arts organisations across the Cultural Quarter to work in partnership with each other and with schools, across a range of art forms. SOWF will evaluate the projects and disseminate findings and recommendations for future work in this area.
The four projects are detailed below:
‘Two’ – A creative collaboration led by Tate Modern and BFI with Bishop Thomas Grant and St Michaels and All Angels school. Exploring photography and documentary making ‘Two’ will consider specific qualities of both media and how they might cross-over and influence each other. Using Tate Modern’s exhibition ‘Street & Studio: An Urban History of Photography’ as well as The BFI archive of relevant artist film and documentaries the project will look at how artists have used these media to capture and comment upon every day urban existence experience.
Creative & Media Diploma project, led by Lambeth CLC with BFI, Southbank Centre, Charles Edward Brooke Secondary School, Lilian Baylis Technology School, Norwood School and Lambeth College. This project will explore ways to design, implement and evaluate schemes of work that will engage, motivate and inspire local young people in the creative and media industries. Organisations will work in partnership with teams of local teachers to create a programme of work which can be replicated nationally in other diploma consortia.
‘A Day in the Life of…’ - Creative & Media Diploma project, led by STEP with the Unicorn, Shakespeare’s Globe and Rambert Dance Company. This project will pilot ways for arts organisations to work with schools to deliver parts of the Creative and Media Diploma. This will involve devising an introductory day for a group of students to introduce them to the different roles and departments within a cultural organisation.
A creative collaboration led by Southbank Centre and other cultural quarter partners. More details soon.
