What is Street Genius?

Street Genius

Street Genius is a programme from SOWF which offers creative placements for young people at some of London’s most exciting arts organisations. The project aims to put local young people at the heart of the South Bank and Bankside Cultural Quarter as creators, producers and advocates. The programme is for young people aged 16 to 19-year-olds from Lambeth and Southwark.

Placements will be intensive and hands on! The nature of the placement will vary depending upon the host organisation – you might be asked to programme a mobile film festival, curate a touring exhibition, put on a live music event or come up with ideas for how to market events to other young people. You might utilise your own skills and experience and you’ll definitely develop plenty more! Street Geniuses will also be responsible for developing online content for their host organisations, this may include documenting your placement with a blog, promoting your event or other events you think are interesting from that venue.

Each Street Genius will get:

  • a placement mentor who will help and support them
  • hands-on experience and insight into how arts organisations work
  • practical work experience
  • money towards expenses
  • skills to put on your CV
  • the chance to produce an event for hundreds or thousands of other young people
